Welcome to Jesse Lee’s Children’s Ministry!
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the head of your Children’s Ministry Program?
Maria Pia Seirup is the Director of our Children’s Ministry program. You will see her when she accompanies the children during Children’s Moment and can be recognized by the owl puppet she carries. She will be happy to speak with you about our Sunday School program. Contact Maria-Pia Seirup, 438-8791 x 105, mp@jesseleechurch.com
When does Sunday School occur?
Jesse Lee is fortunate to have a Sunday School session for both the 9:00am and 11:00am services. We host our Sunday School classes for ages 3 – 5th grade. Your children should remain with you in the service until excused to Sunday school after the Children’s Moment.
Tell me about your Sunday School Curriculum:
We use the ‘Rock Solid’ curriculum produced by Cokesbury. With Rock Solid, children are given examples and then encouraged to apply the weekly Bible story and faith experience to their everyday lives. Children do more than just memorize Bible verses—they experience God’s message through consistency, community-building, application, and dedication and commitment.
Is there a Nursery and what is the age range for the Nursery?
We have a Nursery down the hallway next to the Sanctuary. Babies to young 3 year olds are welcome. All children are well-supervised and the older children are able to play in a separate but adjoined room. Parents are given a beeper should they be needed during the service.
What is JAM?
JAM, which stands for Jesus And Me, is a multi-media children's worship service. Sandwiched between the two adult worship services, JAM runs from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. in Martin Hall. JAM provides a fun-filled opportunity for younger, elementary age children to experience and celebrate God's love through puppets, games, videos and music. Preschoolers are welcome if they can attend to the program. Children sign up weekly to participate in the service by collecting the offering, sharing a specific talent, story, or item, and running the LCD projector. Contact: Debbie Ahle, Dbahle@aol.com
Can you tell me about the children’s choirs?
Cherub Choir
The cherub choir is a child's first introduction to organized Christian music. Preschoolers and kindergartners meet in the foyer of Martin Hall from 10:40-10:55 a.m.). Music is simple and repetitive, often involving hand motions. The cherub choir usually performs once a month in church at the 11:00 service. Contact: Carolina Fernandez, emomrx@yahoo.com
Junior Choir
The junior choir is a dynamic group of 1st through 5th graders who enjoy praising God through music. The music is often in two parts which gives them an opportunity to experience harmony. The children are encouraged to share any talents they may have with instrumentation as well, be it simple rhythm instruments or strings/band instruments that they have studied. Practices are Sunday mornings at 10:40 am in Martin Hall, immediately following JAM. The children sing approximately once a month in church, generally at the 11:00 am service. Contacts: Debbie Ahle, Dbahle@aol.com, Mimi Wood and Sarah Miller.
