At Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, we offer confirmation classes to students in the eighth grade. High school students that have not gone through confirmation who want to deepen their faith and become members of the church will have an opportunity to do so beginning later this year. Confirmation is an important step in the lives of Christian students. It is the affirmation of their baptisms and the time when they say, “Thank you for raising me within the Christian community. I am now ready to make my own commitment to Jesus Christ.”
Confirmation class is not just an in-depth Bible study with a focus on United Methodist doctrine. It is a time for personal spiritual growth, assessment, and accountability. The Confirmation journey is intended to impart the importance of the commitment the students will be making—a lifelong decision to serve, worship, and be a witness for God. It is designed to reflect the expectations Jesse Lee has for all its members: faithful attendance at worship, active participation in a small group, and continuing Christian education.
While there is not a fee to register, there are a significant number of requirements for you to be aware of. We know that this is a large undertaking, though place great value in this part of the faith formation journey.
Starting on Rally Day on Sunday, September 8, confirmands will need to attend a Sunday morning worship service and participate in a weekly small group for three out of every four weeks. Small group options include: youth group on Sunday evenings, Joyful Noise, and Student Covenant groups to be formed by students - more information TBA.
The Confirmation journey begins with an informational meeting at the Carriage House on Thursday, October 3, starting at 7:00 PM. At least one parent must attend, confirmands are strongly encouraged to attend. You sign up for Confirmation by completing the online registration (below).
Confirmation classes will be held on Thursday afternoons, 4:30-6:00, beginning on Thursday, October 17, 2019, and continuing through May. Attendance at the classes is required, with a maximum of three misses allowed.

This is not a small list of requirements, and we realize teenagers’ schedules are tight. But confirmation is not something to be entered into lightly, nor is it simply a rite-of-passage or an item on a checklist. A firm foundation in Christianity will help to ensure a successful future and healthy relationships. Please join me with a positive reinforcement of the process.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Pastor Bill Phofl or Director of Children and Youth Ministries Carrie King.
